| I'm just not sure of the merits of this one |

I'm not even sure I prefer it over the centre-composed version, which has clearer ancillary figures. Oh, I don't know.

They're both good Simon. Sorry I can't be more critical :-)

FWIW i like it a lot.
DUDE it's amazing! It looks like some kind of stimulant-fuelled tribal ritual is going on in a parallel universe and your camera has accidentally captured it (OR were you taking a picture of the ritual and the more banal event is the intruder?) It's great! :)
Er but then again I totally love photos with ghostly images superimposed on the in-focus ones - see every picture of Electric Assembly I've ever taken, which reminds me I need to upload the Halloween gig ones - for evidence ;)
definitely this one. the composition is more interesting i reckon -- all the different bits of visual interest mean you want to look at it again and again. plus the exposure in this one is utterly awesome. you shoot film, right?

film, yes. I try to carry a compact camera - Olympus Mju II with a roll of bw in it, just in case. This was a fairly random exposure supported on top of a beer glass. The light rom the phone (continuous, rather than flash) makes it, though.
the mju-II is a fantastic little camera. i have one, and it is really great. never managed anything as fancy as this, though :-)
It's great Simon. I love the bit with the two girls, and the middle figure looks like a Hindu god/dess in motion, because of the two arms effect, and then the far right one is a total contrast, shadowy & spooky. It breaks laws of rational composition but the eye travels across it from a simple narrative image to two much more mysterious and ambiguous ones, one clear and one obscure, so it has an uncanny but noticeable physical impact. Ie gave me goose bumps.
The other photo's good too, more rational maybe but I haven't looked at it so closely.
I prefer the other one, although this one is much less sinister. This one looks like people having fun. The other one looks like people partying while their friends turn into headless monsters. This week is filling up/passing fast. Perhaps relocation to next week (or possibly sunday)?
I'm having trouble articulating my response to this one- I like it and find it unsettling all at the same time. The bit with the two girls is lovely, and the movement around them kind of scary, and yet it all makes a kind of sense as well... | |
